Headies Awards event in the US is quite a kind of downplay for the local entertainment.

Headies award is the most prestigious music award in Nigeria and Africa at large, and as it stands now, musically other African looks up to Nigeria now and in the whole world, Nigeria is the headquarter of musical talents.

However, looking at it from different perceptions, it’s either good or bad but then it seems to do more negligence on the local entertainment than good.

Starting from scratch, The Headies (formerly known as the Hip Hop World Awards) is a music awards show hosted by Nigeria’s Hip Hop World Magazine, which was founded in 2006 to honour outstanding achievements in the Nigerian music industry.

The annual event features performances by well-known and up-and-coming artists, It is broadcast live on HipTV to Nigerians all throughout the country.

The Muson Center in Onikan, Lagos State, hosted the first and second editions of The Headies.

The awards were held in the Eko Hotel and Suites in Victoria Island, Lagos, between 2010 and 2012.

The yearly ceremony has been hosted by a number of Nigerian media figures.

Now let us talk about the adverse impact of relocating the event to us, and the negative impact on the local entertainment, but let’s, first of all, analyze the reasons it was shifted from its homeland to the united states.

According to Ayo Animashaun the executive producer of the award, he said “Atlanta in the US is the black capital of the world where black music thrives. It’s the centre of entertainment and I don’t see why we shouldn’t do something like this there, we’ve done it in Nigeria for 14 years, it’s time to take it out of Africa’’

The reason is solely to improve the award show on a global scene but from another perceptive its flaws the original value and accessorial honour bestowed on it, for example, The Grammys which is an American learned academy of musicians, producers, recording engineers, and other musical professionals shifting their venue outside America regardless of the reasons.

The quest of trying to add value to the show will certainly make it lose its source because of some sort of western validation, when it’s no longer accessible to some participants then it’s actually not good enough.

However, talking about how hard it is to get Visa to travel to the States and other formalities nominees will face getting to the award shows, for example, not all nominees are cleared to travel to the US.

they have the young and upcoming categories like the Rookie of the year, and not practically all of them are cleared to travel to the US.

Also, let’s talk about how it will downplay the local entertainment and the future of any musical event hosted in Nigeria, when what is supposed to be the biggest award platform in Nigeria is no longer hosted in Nigeria then what will be the fate of the local entertainment? it will drastically depreciate and hold no value.
