Nigerian social media was thrown into a frenzy on Tuesday, August 18, 2026, after Afrobeats heavyweights Davido and Wande Coal became embroiled in a heated public exchange.

What started with a discussion about an unreleased collaboration quickly moved beyond music, with both singers trading remarks on social media and fans digging into the history surrounding their relationship and the shelved record.

Here is how the disagreement unfolded.

    • The Beginning: Davido Discusses the Unreleased Feature

The controversy gained momentum after an interview featuring Davido on the Uncut podcast resurfaced online.

During the conversation, the singer spoke about a verse he recorded for Wande Coal’s Come My Way, explaining why the version featuring him never made it to streaming platforms.

Davido said Wande Coal had initially invited him to contribute to the song and that he subsequently recorded what he considered a strong verse. According to his account, the disagreement came when Wande Coal planned to release the original version first and potentially use Davido’s contribution for a later remix.

Davido said he was not interested in that arrangement, which ultimately resulted in the collaboration remaining unreleased.

    • Wande Coal Responds

Wande Coal soon challenged Davido’s account of what happened.

Taking to X, the veteran singer argued that the song already had an established release schedule before Davido became involved. He questioned why Davido would expect to influence the rollout of a song that was not his.

    He wrote:

“Carry song come give you as how? Song wey been get release plan and date!!! Song wey no be your own you wan dictate release plan. That song fkin did well without you on it bruv!!!”

The response transformed what initially appeared to be an old disagreement over music strategy into a much more public confrontation.

“… he brought it to me, but he hadn’t released it. So, I recorded that verse…”

If you ever wondered why the version of Come My Way featuring Davido was never released, this is Davido’s version of the story.

    • From Music Dispute to Personal Exchange

The situation became more heated as both artists moved from discussing the unreleased record to exchanging personal remarks.

Davido responded to Wande Coal with the post, “No vex Mr Little”, appearing to make reference to the singer’s physical stature.

Wande Coal replied with another familiar online taunt directed at Davido, writing, “No vex too Mr. Toto beggar”.

At that point, the disagreement had clearly shifted beyond the original conversation about a song and into a direct social media clash between two established Nigerian artistes.

    • Davido Shares WhatsApp Screenshot

As the back-and-forth continued to attract attention, Davido returned to the matter during another interview segment, accusing Wande Coal of behaving immaturely and suggesting that the singer had been trying to get in touch with him privately.

Davido subsequently shared what he presented as evidence of those attempts.

The screenshot showed a WhatsApp exchange dated July 22 involving a mutual contact. The message read:

“Baddest Wande Coal said he wants your number can I give him?”

Davido appeared to use the exchange to support his position that Wande Coal had attempted to contact him despite the public disagreement over the song.

Davido said Wande Coal has been trying to get his attention and even asked for his number two weeks ago, but he told them not to give it to him…He said Wande was acting like a baby. Then the reporter asked him about Wizkid… wait for Davido’s reaction 😂 pic.twitter.com/r6sxkIVRjL

    • What Happens Next?

Neither Davido nor Wande Coal has publicly apologised or indicated that the dispute has been resolved.

The unexpected clash has generated widespread reactions from fans and music observers while also bringing renewed attention to questions around collaborations, release plans, creative ownership, and the often complicated relationships between major figures in Nigeria’s music industry.

For now, what began as a disagreement over an unreleased verse has developed into one of the most talked-about celebrity exchanges on Nigerian social media.
