Liverpool FC have confirmed the appointment of Andoni Iraola as their new head coach, marking the start of a fresh era at Anfield ahead of the 2026–27 campaign.
The Spanish tactician steps in following the departure of Arne Slot, with Liverpool moving quickly to secure a manager whose reputation has been steadily rising in English football.

Iraola arrives on Merseyside after an impressive spell with AFC Bournemouth, where his progressive style of play transformed the club’s fortunes.
His time on the south coast was crowned with a historic achievement, guiding Bournemouth to their first-ever European qualification after finishing sixth in the Premier League.
Liverpool’s decision to bring him in reflects the club’s intent to continue building on an attacking, high-intensity identity while transitioning into a new managerial cycle.
Speaking after his appointment, Iraola expressed his excitement about taking charge of one of football’s most iconic institutions.
“Really excited, really excited,” he told Liverpoolfc.com. “Because obviously you know about Liverpool, you know that it’s a big club, a massive club, one of the biggest in the world. But feeling inside and understanding a little bit more of this club, I always thought it’s a special club.”
He went on to highlight the pull of Anfield and the scale of the challenge ahead.
“You don’t need a lot of things to get attracted by Liverpool. Liverpool is Liverpool. But obviously the atmosphere, the supporters, the club, the players, the chance for me to coach top-level players, the chance to fight for titles. I think it cannot be more attractive than this. It’s difficult to find it. So, really excited to start.”
With a growing reputation for tactical flexibility and an energetic style of football, Iraola’s arrival signals Liverpool’s intent to remain competitive at the highest level domestically and in Europe as they begin a new chapter under his leadership.
