Morgan Rogers has opened up on his decision to join Chelsea, revealing that the club’s ambition, long-term plans, and the influence of new manager Xabi Alonso played a major role in convincing him to move to Stamford Bridge.
The England international recently completed a reported £117 million transfer from Aston Villa, becoming one of the most expensive British signings in football history.
Despite strong interest from Arsenal, who had tracked the forward throughout the summer window, Chelsea ultimately secured the deal for one of England’s most exciting attacking talents.
Following the completion of his move, Rogers expressed his excitement about joining the Blues and highlighted the club’s reputation as one of the reasons behind his decision.
“I’m so excited. For me, Chelsea are the biggest club in London and a club I’ve always admired since I was a kid.”
The 23-year-old explained that Chelsea’s plans for the future, combined with Alonso’s football philosophy, were key factors in choosing west London as the next step in his career.
“The size of the club, the stature, the progression and the way that the club wants to move forward,” Rogers said, adding that his discussions with Alonso strengthened his belief that Chelsea was the right environment for him to continue developing.
“I’ve had a few conversations with him. It very much fits with the way I see the game, the way I want to play, and the way I want to be me and express myself. Him being a part of that was a massive factor in me being here.”
Rogers arrives at Chelsea after an impressive spell at Aston Villa, where he established himself as one of the Premier League’s most dangerous young attackers. The club will now be hoping he can reproduce that form in a blue shirt as Alonso’s side aims to compete for major trophies in the coming seasons.
