Afrobeats heavyweight Davido has weighed in on the long-running debate around legacy in Nigerian music, naming Asake, Rema, and Omah Lay as the male artists he believes are best placed to rise as the next generation’s “Greatest Of All Time.”

The multiple award-winning singer shared his thoughts during a lively appearance on Carter Efe’s Twitch livestream on Wednesday night, where conversations flowed from comedy to serious reflections on the evolution of Afrobeats and its growing global influence.
Asked who could realistically inherit the GOAT conversation after him, Davido did not hesitate. He pointed to Asake, Rema, and Omah Lay, citing their consistency, originality, and ability to translate local success into global impact.
According to the DMW boss, all three artists have delivered strong projects while expanding the reach of Nigerian music far beyond Africa.
Davido was careful to clarify that his remarks were centred on male artists alone. He stressed that female stars are equally pushing boundaries on the world stage, giving credit to acts like Tems and Ayra Starr, whom he described as leading lights in their own lane.
Speaking further, Davido admitted he has a deep admiration for the trio he mentioned, particularly because of how visible their music has become internationally. He noted that while spending time in the United States, he constantly encountered their songs, influence, and growing fan base, something he described as a major win for Afrobeats.
He also acknowledged that breaking into and maintaining relevance in foreign markets is no small achievement, praising Asake, Rema, and Omah Lay for their work ethic and the steady momentum they continue to build outside Nigeria.
The GOAT debate has always been a hot topic within Afrobeats, especially as the genre enjoys unprecedented global attention. With new artists consistently smashing records, selling out arenas, and earning international recognition, conversations around greatness and legacy are only getting louder.
Davido’s public endorsement of Asake, Rema and Omah Lay adds fresh energy to that discussion while also highlighting the depth of talent in the current generation and the bright future of Nigerian music on the global stage.
