Alex Iwobi’s Dad Hints at Possible Davido, Wizkid Collaboration as Son Launches Music Career
Nigerian footballer Alex Iwobi has expanded his artistic reach with the release of his second single, “Wat’s Luv?.”
Following his debut track “Don’t Shoot” earlier in 2024, Iwobi is proving his versatility, balancing a music career with his commitment to professional football.
Iwobi’s father, Chuka, recently shared insights into how the Fulham FC player manages his dual passions.
Speaking to Legit.ng, he said, “Alex developed an early love for music, but to be honest, I never imagined him being an artiste. As a footballer, his priority is to be the best he can be without any distractions and to give everything on the pitch.
Music provides him with a form of escape from the pressures of playing professional football and gives him the opportunity to have fun and express himself.”
Chuka also noted his son’s deep appreciation for African music, which is evident in “Wat’s Luv?” This new track, which features artists SPKS and MBrown, blends Afro-swing and rap to celebrate Iwobi’s African heritage.

While Iwobi initially played for England at the youth level, he switched allegiance to represent Nigeria, driven by his strong connection to his African roots.
According to his father, the 28-year-old footballer has crossed paths with several prominent Nigerian music stars, including Davido, Wizkid, Flavour, Buju, Phyno, Odumodublvck, and Seyi Vibez, and a collaboration with one of them may be on the horizon. “Hopefully, one day, he will have a collaboration with a few of them,” Chuka shared.
Creative consultant SPKS, who collaborated with Iwobi on “Wat’s Luv?” praised the footballer’s passion and commitment to music.
He revealed, “Alex has been a keen writer and rapper for as long as I have known him. Even when it wasn’t anything serious, he really loved music.” SPKS also mentioned that they’ve recorded numerous songs over the years, with plans to release more as they continue to complement each other’s creative styles.
As Iwobi continues to make his mark on the music scene, his family and collaborators are impressed by his ability to stay focused, humble, and dedicated to both his football career and his newfound musical path.
