Olamide joins Fela Kuti as the only Nigerian artists to achieve this milestone on the Billboard charts.
With the release of his most recent album, “Unruly,” Nigerian Indigenous rapper Olamide has joined the late Fela Kuti as the only other Nigerian artist to have such a level of success on the Billboard charts.
As the first Nigerian artist in history to accomplish a really extraordinary achievement on the famous Billboard charts, rap legend Olamide has put a new feather to his cap as one of the greatest musical exports from the country, along with the late Afrobeat phenomenon Fela Kuti.
In a predictable course of events, Olamide’s highly anticipated 10th studio album release, ‘Unruly,’ reinforced his status in music history as he became the first Nigerian artist—alongside Fela—to record a significant number of entries on the Billboard World Albums Chart.
The rapper has recorded a total of six (6) entries on the chart with the following projects:
#4 — Street OT
#6 — The Glory
#6 — Lagos Nawa
#10 — Unruly (New Entry)
#11 — Carpe Diem
#12 — UY Scuti
But Fela Kuti continues to hold the title, having amassed an incredible total of eight (8) albums that have appeared on the Billboard World Albums charts.
The importance of this accomplishment for Olamide cannot be emphasized enough; it signifies a monumental stride in his path as both a rapper and a music industry powerhouse.
Furthermore, the rapper clinched the title for the highest-charting rap album by a Nigerian artist on both the US and UK charts for Apple Music. Simultaneously, he set the record for the highest debut within a 24-hour window for a Nigerian rap album on Spotify.
