Nigerian musician, Divine Ikubor, also known as Rema, believes that many relationships in this generation are centred on financial gains.

During a recent interview with the i-D Meets podcast, the young and gifted vocalist made this claim.

Rema’s favourite lines from his debut album ‘Rave & Roses‘ are ‘love is not a source of money,’ which he learned from personal experience.

The artist went on to say that he couldn’t describe love since everyone had to experience their own interpretation of it.

    In his words:

“My favourite lyric in my album [is] ‘Love is not a source of income’. It came from my actual experience. A lot of relationships in our new generation is just really all about the gains.

“It’s painful that I can’t really define love. You’ve to live your own version. I have not lived my version. I’m waiting for it though.”

In the meantime, “Calm Down” has exceeded 1 billion streams on Spotify across all versions, marking a new career milestone.

Rema’s “Calm Down” is one of the biggest Afrobeats exports and has become a global sensation. The song has no intention of slowing down as it sets a new record on the Spotify streaming platform and continues to rise in popularity worldwide.

The 2022 international hit song “Calm Down” by Nigerian pop diva Rema has achieved one billion streams on Spotify, marking a new milestone.
