    Throwback: Nigerian Albums turning 10 in 2021

    Today, we would be looking at Nigerian albums that would turn 10 years this year. 2011 saw the release of great albums from both New and old artists.

    In 2010, the Nigerian Music Industry was witnessing a change of guard as New talents that would later become frontrunners of the last decade were being introduced to the music scene with songs and albums.

    Coupled with already established artists, that year and the following being 2011 experienced an impressive list of albums being released.

    In 2011, the Nigerian Music Industry was seeing a different dimension to its pop soundscape. Wizkid has entered in a unique and fresh style with the release of his ‘Holla At Ya Boy”.

    In less than a year, Wizkid had become the reigning artist with his debut album, “Superstar“. To date, it remains Wizkid’s best album.

    It featured producers such as Samklef, Jay Sleek, Knighthouse, E Kelly and Guests Artistes like Wande Coal, D’Prince And Label Mates, Skales & Banky W.

    By 2011, Choc Boiz comprising of M.I Abaga, Jesse Jagz and Ice Prince were a force to be reckoned with in the music industry.

    That year, Ice Prince dropped his debut album “Everybody Loves Ice Prince”, the album is considered to be a classic for its unique style of rap and the smash songs it birthed.

    Off the albums, singles like “Oleku, Juju, Superstar, Magician” dominated the airwaves.

    Released in January 2011, Ahamefuna is considered Duncan Mighty‘s best album so far. It helped gain him fans amongst non-Igbo speaking people in Lagos. The album birthed classics like “Port-Harcourt Son“, “Obianuju.”

    In 2011, Samklef was one of the hottest Music Producers in the industry, most of the songs he produced then were instant hits. He dropped his debut album, “Nonilizing” in June of that year.

    One of the biggest songs to come out of the album was “Molowo Noni” which featured Wizkid and D Prince.

    The album also featured vocals from Olamide, Ice Prince and Skales.

    Released in July of 2011, bez breezed his way into ladies hearts with his romantic slow blues songs. The 15-track album produced hits like “That Stupid Song”, “Stop Pretending”, “Zuciya Daya”, “Super Sun.”

    The album features production by Cobhams Asuquo and vocals from the likes of eLDee, Eva, Ice Prince & Praise

    The Boston Globe placed it at number 3 on its list of World music’s top albums of 2011.

    Olamide entrance into the industry had come during the time the industry had lost Dagrin. Olamide’s debut single “Eni Duro” caught people’s attention not just for the lyrics but for its video where he had changed clothes up to 15 times.

    He then followed up with the Wizkid-assisted song, ‘Omo To Shan” which was also a smash hit.

    Backed by production from iconic Music Producer, ID Cabasa as well as great delivery, clever rhymes as well as native proverbs, all layed out in his mother tongue, Rapsodi was an album that was superior to most in 2011.

    The album had guests such as Wizkid, 9ice, Terry tha Rapman, as well as label mates like 2phat, Adol, reminisce.

    After the success of his debut album, “U Know My P” in 2005, Naeto C dropped his sophomore album, “Super Season C” in 2011.

    The album produced smash hits like “Ten Over Ten”, “5 & 6”, “Ako Mi Ti Toju” and “Share My Blessings.”

    The album was blessed by artists like Omawumi, Asa, Waje, DaGrin, Terry G, YQ, as well as UK rapper Sway.

    9ice- Bashorun Gaa & Versus

    Fresh off from controversy surrounding the crash of his first marriage, 9ice dropped two albums in 2011, Bashorun Gaa and Versus.

    While Bashrun Gaa showed the regular 9ice with the usual serving of African proverbs while Versus was more like a face-off alongside different artists across Africa.

    P-square- The Invasion

    By 2011, P-square were seen as legendary acts in the industry. When they dropped “The Invasion” is a huge commercial success that really invaded the music scene.

    The album birthed classics like “Onyinye,’ ‘Bunieya Enu,’ ‘Chop My Money’ and ‘Do As I Do.’ More importantly, ‘Beautiful Onyinye’ got a remix with the hottest rapper of that year, Rick Ross.

    In 2012, it won the Headies Album of the Year and it also sealed their legendary status.

    Released in March of 2011, Double Dare Is A Double album comprising two parts; Heart (majorly slow love songs) and Beat (more up-tempo and fast-paced songs).

    It features Production from TY Mix And vocals from artists Flavour, Timaya, 9ice, Jesse Jagz, Mo’ Cheddah, P-square.

    It birthed Hit Singles Like ‘Love The Way You Are’, ‘Ba Ni Kidi’, As Well As The Chamillionaire, assisted ‘Love The Way You Are’ remix.
