“It Wasn’t Me” is the first single from Jamaican-American reggae artist Shaggy’s multi-Platinum studio album Hot Shot (2000). The song features vocals from Shaggy and Rikrok.

The lyrics of the song depict one man asking his friend what to do after his girlfriend caught him having sex with another woman. His friend’s advice is to deny everything, despite clear evidence to the contrary, with the phrase “It wasn’t me.”

A lot of fans have the conception that the song encourages cheating but Shaggy during an interview said that the song is actually an anti-cheating song.

The Grammy award-winning reggae singer said that the reason why most don’t know that the song is anti-cheating song is that most DJs don’t always play to the last verse.

According to him, in the third verse, the man who cheated on his girlfriend is telling his friend that he would go home to apologize to his girlfriend for cheating on her.
