What do you think guys? Does the popularly acclaimed Street king deserve a Grammy?.
Olamide Adedeji aka Badoo Sneh is a highly talented rapper, who has been and is still a major personality in the Nigerian music industry
Badoo is also one of the major pioneers in what we refer to as the “Yoruba new school rap”, which is now a well-patronized genre of Nigerian music

Nearly a decade in the music scene, Olamide has successfully delivered countless smashing and chart-topping hits.
He has also bagged several huge awards in Nigeria and Africa at large
Some of these awards include;
- Best indigenous artiste category in 2013 Nigerian Entertainment Award.
- Won Best Collaboration ( Ghost Mode ft Phyno) in 2013 Nigerian Entertainment Award.
- Won Best Album of the year ( Baddest Guy Ever Liveth) in 2013 Nigerian Entertainment Award.
- The Headies 2013: He won 3 awards that year: Best Album, Best Street Hip hop artist, and Best Rap Album.
- Best Afro Hip hop video in the same year, at the 2013 Nigerian Music Video Award.
- 2014 Channel O Music Video Awards for Most Gifted West African Video (Turn Up)
- Headies 2015: Olamide won two awards: Best Street Hop, and Artiste of the year.
- City people Award 2015: He won the Rap artist of the year, Best indigenous artiste category in 2013 Nigerian Entertainment Award
The rapper is also the CEO of one of the biggest record labels in Nigeria and the whole of Africa; YBNL, and has successfully brought many top acts to the limelight.
However, we can’t ignore the obvious fact that despite these achievements, Olamide is yet to gain enough international recognition as he should.
In spite of his huge and solid fan base, Badoo is yet to even bring home a BET award.
Whereas, young and upcoming artists who started their music journey not too long ago are bagging EMAs and getting Grammy nominations.

Well, only one thing can be blamed for this; his style of music.
Olamide is no doubt an indigenous rapper. He makes his music mostly with the Yoruba flavor, he uses slangs, lots of them, some of which we don’t even know their meanings.
I mean, let’s take a look at “Science Student” or example. Fine, the song peaches against drug abuse, educative lyrical content, mad vibe, those are the two major elements needed to make a global jam.
Howbeit, the song did not make it to any international chart, it barely even made it through other African countries. Why is that? it’s simple! Not everyone understands his words, and the message he is trying to pass.
Obviously,y his music style and lyrical content are not meant for a global audience, as this applies to almost all his songs.
Furthermore, Olamide may have been lost in his royal regime as the street king, that perhaps he became too lazy, and decided to remain local instead of seeking a global audience.
Now let’s talk about the very prestigious Grammy awards, no doubt one of the biggest in the history of world music.
Years back, it seemed almost impossible for Nigerian artists to bag this award, but it seems as years go by, our music has begun to attract global attention.
Although many Nigerian artists have been nominated, only one Nigerian named; Sikiru Adepoju has managed to win
Now, back to Olamide, he is unfortunately yet to be nominated, talk more of winning!.
This sad fact slightly rubs off his shine as a rap legend, at least he should have bagged a Nomination!.
You may conclude that he deserves an award for his giant significance in the Nigerian music industry and Africa as a whole, but unfortunately, Baba didn’t put himself out there.
Still, the curtain has not been drawn yet, so we still have faith in Badoo, because we think it’s not too late.
Who knows, he may drop a mega-hit song or an epic album which will earn him a Grammy nomination, or even win a Grammy! I mean, nothing is impossible!.

Hence, we look forward to future editions of the award show. Maybe, just maybe we’ll find our street king there!!!.
However, before I end, let me save this million-dollar question with you;
Does Olamide deserve a Grammy?
