“Want to sing music, want to sing music, you think music is for everybody?”
Music ain’t for everybody. But just like everyone’s trying to survive in this economy, everyone who thinks he’s got the voice wants to sing music. It’s always a “many are called, but few are chosen” case, at the end of the day.
Not everybody will blow. Infact, not everyone who’s popular will be hot every year. They can’t all be “Artist Of The Year” at the same time. But at the end of every year, a couple guys would have made a mark.
2019 is here, and it’s time to give props to the guys (and ladies) who made our 2018 memorable. Here is Mp3bullet’s Top 10 Singers, for 2018 (in descending order.)
MAYORKUN
From Next-Rated to, whatever he is now, Mayorkun’s status has quickly risen from “that guy that sang Eleko” to “DMW superstar.” In two years.
By the time 2018 came, Mayor was ready for his debut album, and he started working on it. Before the album, he was touring the country, doing “The Mayor of Lagos” Tour. Then, the album came, and it was a bomb. Meanwhile, before the album, he’s served two hits, “Bobo” and “Posh.” Both were on the LP.
Mayorkun’s not just a guy, he’s done well in 2018.
SIMI
Simi is one of the industry’s most-wanted female vocalists, and so far, her career has blown up. While many are still yet to recover from her 2017 album, “Simisola,” she’s been consistently dishing more hits.
A couple of her notable tracks include, “I Dun Care,” which was an instant hit, then “Original Baby” with Legendary 2Baba. She’s been featured by a wide array of artists. Mr Eazi, Zoro, she was also on the remix of “Issa Goal,” for the World Cup.
MR EAZI
His rise to stardom happened all of a sudden. His coming from Accra to dominate Lagos, is above normal. So, we thought he’s just a sensation. Some people still think he’s gonn’ disappear, soon.
Well, I’m afraid, with what he’s done, so far, he’s here to say (aka, we die here!) He came with his second album, “Life Is Eazi Vol 2: Lagos To London,” this year. And quite a number of hits you love are from Eazi. “Property,” “Surrender” feat. Simi, “London Town,” with Giggs, “Overload” with Slimcase, and more.
TIWA SAVAGE
She’s no doubt the Queen, of the industry, now. Although, she lost the BET Award to Davido, earlier this year, she’s still the only female artist that comes close to ’em Wizkid and Davido.
“Tiwa’s Vibe,” “Labalaba,” “Lova Lova,” “ONE,” it’s been hits ‘pon hits. You can’t possibly be hating on her.
KIZZ DANIEL
Kizz Daniel, was hot at G Worldwide. He left, and became hotter. He’s getting so hot, he’s starting to burn out.
Since he was out of his cage, the beast in him was unleashed, and he went on to do a number of collabos. First there was DJ Spinall’s “Baba,” then Harrysong’s “Selense,” Omawumi tapped him for “Me Ke,” Seyi Shay brought him in for “Surrender.”
His own single “4dayz” quickly became a hit, too. And, then, he was ready for his album. NBS came, and it’s been breaking records. I think, 2018 is just about to start for Kizz Daniel.
DUNCAN MIGHTY
If anybody told me Duncan Mighty would be a sensation in 2018, last year, I wouldn’t believe. But here we are. It’s just like he gave his life to Christ, ’cause he was born again.
Wizkid’s “Fake Love” kick started the whole thing, and within weeks, every track we got had Duncan Mighty. Everybody started featuring him. Tiwa Savage, Reekado Banks, Davido, Bracket, Ice K, Lil Kesh, DJ Xclusive and many more.
Duncan Mighty, first became popular around ’09 and ’10, when he had hit songs like “Obianuju,” “PortHarcourt’s Son,” “Ako Na Uche.” He’s a Legend, in his own right, and coming back in 2018 paid off!
OLAMIDE
You’re probably wondering, “is Olamide not supposed to be a rapper?” Yeah, he is a rapper, when he’s a rapper.
He’s also a bad-ass singer, especially when it comes to doing street Afro’s. He’s known for his consistency, and that’s why he’s got so many singles, enough to own the year.
“Kana” with Wizkid issa hit, even his “Omo Ologo” freestyle hit everybody. His most recent of all, “Poverty Die” is the biggest thing, right now. In this industry, you can’t ever obliterate Olamide.
BURNA BOY
“Oluwa Burna, mo gbona Feli,” Burna’s hot, very hawt. 2018 has been a very big year for him. Quite a number think he’s the “Artist Of The Year,” which he actually deserves.
Dropping his album, “Outside” early, no one would have thought, it’d be one of best projects we’ve got, by December. But the album’s just too good. He fired the monster hit, “Ye,” and “Heaven’s Gate,” off the album. The album was a commercial and critical hit.
Amidst doing a song for Spinall, and a couple guest verses, “Gbona” came. It’s a banger, and, you know the rest.
DAVIDO
“Assurance,” “Flora My Flawa,” “Mind,” “Aje,” “Aza,” the list goes on and on. Davido’s a mega superstar, and like he’ say, a Legend.
After enjoying a massive year, in 2017 with “pon pon pon,” he came back this year with more hits to burst our brains. Guy even got a BET!
Although, we’re expecting his album, anytime from now, David is actually having the time of his life.
WIZKID
It’s not even ‘shocking’ that he’s on top of the list. Everybody just know Wizkid is the biggest thing in Africa, right now. 2018 has been eventful.
He started with “Soco,” which is probably still the song of the year. Then “Fake Love” that brought Duncan back to life came in, then “Master Groove” and “Fever,” which at first got negative reviews until Wiz took control of the narrative. He shot a highly controversial video that started the “Everywhere Stew” trend. He still wasn’t done for the year, he unleashed “Gucci Snake.” Nobody knows what he’s up to, at the moment.
Wizkid has also played some big shows for the year, including performing at the Global Citizen event.
Meanwhile, StarBoy now plays with a live band!
