The 17th edition of the Headies Awards, one of Nigeria’s most esteemed music award ceremonies, has been scheduled for April 5, 2025, in Lagos, Nigeria.

The announcement was made by the Headies Executive Producer, Mr. Ayo Animashaun, in a statement released on Monday, January 20, 2025.
He revealed that the upcoming edition promises to be exceptional, stating, “This year’s edition is packed with an extraordinary lineup of events, culminating in a week-long celebration of the industry’s growth and artistic ingenuity.”
The celebration will commence on March 29, 2025, with The Headies Stakeholders Brunch and the nominees’ party. These events will set the stage for the main award ceremony, which will take place on April 5.
For the 17th edition, the Headies Academy has introduced an exciting new feature—The Headies Festival. This festival will showcase the diverse elements of Nigerian music, entertainment, and culture, further highlighting the country’s creative excellence.
Details regarding the host, venue, and nomination list for this year’s ceremony remain undisclosed. It is also unclear whether the Academy will retain the initial nomination window, which spanned from April 1, 2023, to July 31, 2024.
This year marks the return of the Headies Awards to Nigerian soil after two consecutive editions held abroad, including the 2023 ceremony in Atlanta, USA. The move back to Lagos aligns with the Academy’s efforts to reconnect with its Nigerian audience.
Mr. Animashaun previously cited high planning costs as the reason for hosting the awards outside Nigeria in recent years. However, the return is anticipated to reignite local enthusiasm and serve as a platform to celebrate the achievements of Nigerian artists and creatives.
The Headies, which began in 2006, has become a cornerstone of the Nigerian music industry, honouring exceptional talent and fostering artistic innovation.
The 17th edition is expected to deliver memorable performances, recognize notable releases, and further solidify its legacy as a prestigious cultural event.
