‘Bombay‘ is another name for the most populated city in India and 5th most populated city in the world, Mumbai. Now tell me, is that ‘bum bum’ mention in the chorus of the song really bigger than ‘bombay’? No. Good to note Wizkid applies hyperbolism with his cool vocals to express the song generally.
However, lyrically, I am lost at some point. Language misuse is exposed in his lyrics. ‘Comment tu t’appelle?’ literary transcribes as ‘tell me what is your name and number’ in the context, is appalling. Also, ‘I am Je m’appelle’ is found to be a tautology, neglecting language barrier. Phyno has a better view, lyrically, with his hip hop kind of music.
Nevertheless, the best part of the production comes on the beat; thumbs up to Dr. Frabz but will the song last? ‘Bombay’ having an afro hip-hop genre of production is restricted to entice the club and parties. I guess it dies there.
