Nigerian singer BNXN has fired back at American rapper Fat Joe following comments about his stage name change that stirred reactions online.

The controversy began after a recent episode of the Joe and Jada Podcast, where Jamaican icon Buju Banton appeared as a guest. During the conversation, Fat Joe claimed he had once publicly criticised BNXN and “forced” him to drop the name Buju—suggesting he stepped in to protect Buju Banton’s identity.
The clip quickly made the rounds on social media, drawing backlash from many Nigerian fans who felt the remarks came off dismissive and disrespectful toward African artists.
Reacting via his X (formerly Twitter) page, BNXN didn’t mince words as he called out the American rapper over what he described as ignorance and misplaced hostility.
“The hate in your heart and your misinformation about African music and its artists is why your chromosomes are all f**ked up. Educate yourself, bozo,” BNXN posted.
All my genuine love and respect to everyone who gave a voice or a reaction in support. I love and appreciate each and everyone of you.

The response added fuel to an already heated conversation, with fans weighing in on both sides of the debate.
Fellow Nigerian artist Joeboy also joined the discussion, dismissing Fat Joe’s remarks as “dirty yarns” while mocking what many saw as an attempt to undermine African talent.
The exchange has since reignited conversations around global recognition, respect, and the evolving influence of African music on the world stage.
Still tryna talk down on African acts in 2026.
