Singer Portable Denied Bail as Ogun Court Remands Him Over Assault and Car Theft

Controversial street-pop singer Habeeb Okikiola, better known as Portable, found himself in serious legal trouble on Monday as he was arraigned before the Federal High Court in Ota, Ogun State, over a nine-count criminal charge.
According to court documents, the charges range from assault and theft to causing bodily harm and resisting arrest, all linked to a chaotic incident that reportedly occurred at Portable’s bar in the Iyana Ilogbo area on New Year’s Day.
Prosecutors allege that the singer attacked his estranged partner, Ashabi Simple, during the altercation. The situation reportedly escalated further when several police officers who intervened, including a female inspector identified as Ogungbe Olayemi, were also allegedly assaulted.
The charge sheet lists multiple other alleged victims, including Ileyemi Damilola, Akinyanju Oluwabusayomi, Olowu Olumide, Demilade Ogunniyi, and Ebuka Odah. Portable is also accused of stealing a Mercedes-Benz E300 valued at ₦12 million, said to belong to Ileyemi Damilola.
In court, two siblings of Ashabi Simple appeared and testified as witnesses, although Ashabi herself was notably absent from the proceedings.
When the issue of bail came up, the presiding judge declined to grant it, citing the absence of the allegedly assaulted police officer in court. As a result, Portable was remanded in custody until January 19.
Away from the courtroom, the drama continues. The Ogun State Police Command has confirmed that it is investigating a viral video making the rounds online, which appears to show Portable being assaulted while in police custody, adding yet another layer to an already explosive case.
As the legal battle unfolds, all eyes remain on the court to see how the controversial singer’s latest chapter will play out.
