Nigerian singer Timaya has opened up about the recent uproar surrounding Burna Boy and Sophia Egbueje’s now-viral “sex for Lamborghini” drama that broke out earlier this year.

The veteran artist, known for hits like Dem Mama, shared his perspective during a recent appearance on the Afrobeats Intelligence podcast. He drew parallels between the current situation and a personal experience he once had with Nollywood actress Empress Njamah.
Timaya said, “It’s the same car issue that I had with Empress Njameh that Burna Boy is having now na. My own time, I gave her money to buy the car and she didn’t she continued to drive my car and didn’t give me my money back.”
The controversy first erupted in February 2025 when a leaked voice note circulated widely on social media. In the note, socialite Sophia alleged that she was persuaded by her friend Ama Reginald and Burna Boy’s associate Manny to get involved with the Afrobeat superstar, who had promised her a Lamborghini but reportedly failed to deliver.

Despite the public backlash against Burna Boy, Timaya urged Nigerians to take a more measured approach to the situation. He emphasized that such matters are common in the entertainment industry and cautioned against jumping to conclusions.
“Did Burna Boy say that he won’t buy the car for her? No, he didn’t. When we ask God for something, he doesn’t always give us immediately, not to talk of a human being,” Timaya explained.
He added, “He never said that he wasn’t going to buy it for her. He might still buy it, I don’t know why people are stressing about it; the girl is a big girl on her own.”
