The Afrobeats sensation, whose 2024 album ‘Born in the Wild‘ has been making waves globally, opened up about her transition from a corporate job to the music industry during a candid interview with American radio host Kurt Alexander, popularly known as Big Boy.
Tems revealed that she had previously worked as a digital marketer for a furniture company but left after facing a demotion, which ultimately led her to take the bold step of pursuing her passion for music.
Reflecting on her time in the corporate world, she admitted it didn’t feel like the right path for her, so she decided to take a leap of faith.
In the interview, the 29-year-old star also shared memorable stories about her interactions with global icons like Rihanna and Beyoncé and discussed the journey of her career and personal growth.

She revealed that he was instrumental in shaping her taste in music, introducing her to rap and sparking a passion for the genre at a young age. Tems admitted to idolizing Lil Wayne so much that she would pretend to be him, listing hits like “Mrs. Officer,” “Mr. Carter,” “Comfortable,” and “Hustler Musik” among her favourites from the New Orleans rapper.
