Timaya discusses why Nigerian performers demand exorbitant payments for their performances.
Veteran musician Timaya addressed the rising costs associated with music production and how they influence the high fees Nigerian artists charge for performances.
In a candid interview, Timaya explained that the expenses involved in creating music have surged dramatically in recent years.
He highlighted the significant increase in the cost of producing high-quality music videos, stating that what used to cost around ₦1.5 million now demands anywhere from ₦50 million to ₦100 million for top-tier visuals.
Timaya emphasized that the money spent on not only producing but also promoting music is “massive,” which contributes to the higher performance fees that artists now charge.
He argued that the investment required to bring music to life and keep it relevant in today’s competitive landscape justifies these costs.

Addressing a long-standing rumor about having issues with military personnel, Timaya set the record straight. He explained that the story was false, noting, “The story about me having a negative encounter with military men is untrue. Why would I get involved with them? In whatever you do, you must apply wisdom or sense.”
He concluded by pointing out that, despite his wild behavior at the time, there was always a strategic approach behind it. Unlike many of his peers who were focused on love songs, Timaya, coming from the Niger Delta, stood out with a different style and attitude, which helped him rise in the music industry.
