Wizkid extends record as the highest RIAA-certified Nigerian artist with ‘Soco’
Nigerian Afrobeats superstar Wizkid, whose real name is Balogun Ayodeji, has reached a remarkable milestone, solidifying his position as the artist with the most RIAA certifications among Nigerian musicians.
The Grammy-winning singer recently received a gold certification for his hit “Soco,” which has sold over 500,000 units in the United States.
With this achievement, Wizkid now boasts a total of eight RIAA certifications, extending his record as he already held seven certifications for tracks like “Essence” (4x platinum), “Come Closer” (platinum), and “One Dance” (11x platinum).
“Soco,” featuring Ceeza Milli, Spotless, and Terri, not only marked a significant moment in Wizkid’s career but also introduced three emerging talents to the music scene. The song has also earned certifications in the UK (silver) and Canada & France (gold).
In comparison, other prominent Nigerian artists have also made their mark: Burna Boy has four certifications (two platinum and two gold), while Tems holds four as well (three platinum and one gold).
Notable artists like Davido, Rema, and CKay have also received RIAA certifications, showcasing the growing influence and success of Nigerian music on the global stage.
