Burna Boy reacts to Davido’s ongoing custody battle with Sophia Momodu
Nigerian Afro-fusion artist Burna Boy has weighed in on the ongoing custody battle between fellow musician Davido and his baby mama, Sophia Momodu, over their first child, Imade.
Burna Boy took to the social media platform X (formerly known as Twitter) in the early hours of Saturday, July 6, 2024, to respond to a comment from a social media user advising him to consider marriage and having children after turning 33 in July 2024.
In his response, Burna Boy made it clear that marriage and children are not currently part of his plans.
He mentioned the ongoing custody battle involving Davido as a cautionary example, suggesting that it’s not something he wants to emulate.
When another user accused him of deflecting rather than addressing the question directly, Burna Boy questioned whether Davido’s situation was a good example to follow, implying that the struggles Davido is facing are a reason to reconsider such life choices.
In a tweet, Davido expressed disappointment, saying, “All I asked for was ‘joint custody’ but because it’s Davido, y’all wanna act like y’all can’t read! SMH I’m off this… y’all be blessed and I pray this never happens to you.” (SMH stands for “shaking my head”)
This tweet comes after Davido filed for joint custody in April 2024, concerning Imade, whom he shares with Sophia Momodu. While details of Momodu’s response remain undisclosed, Davido’s tweet indicates a perceived public misunderstanding of his intentions.
The tweet has ignited discussions on social media. Many are voicing support for Davido’s desire to play an active role in his daughter’s life. However, others are calling for privacy for all parties involved, especially concerning a minor child.
