‘I felt like a stranger to myself’ – Simi on battle with imposter syndrome
Ahead of the release of her fifth studio album, Nigerian artist Simi has candidly opened up about her struggles with imposter syndrome.
The mother of one revealed that while she has always had a deep understanding of herself, in recent years, she has faced the discomfort of feeling like she has lost her true essence. Simi explained that at times, she felt like a stranger to herself, which has been the most challenging aspect to confront.
Taking to her X handle on Tuesday, Simi shared, “For most of my life, I have enjoyed the privilege of knowing myself deeply, unwaveringly, truly. In more recent years, I have also endured the discomfort of losing myself. Sometimes, to make room for something else that I needed to be – other times, because I could not, for the life of me, find my way. I felt like a stranger to myself. This version of me has been the hardest one to look at in the mirror.”
Simi expressed that creating her upcoming album ‘Lost And Found‘ has been instrumental in her journey of rediscovery. She described the album as a symbol of finding parts of herself again that she feared were lost permanently. She emphasized her belief that the process of self-discovery is ongoing and that there’s always more to uncover if one is willing to look.
“This album is about me reclaiming my chemistry with music, melody, and love stories,” Simi added, highlighting that ‘Lost And Found’ is a tribute to the continuous journey of finding and rediscovering oneself.
Fans eagerly await the release of Simi’s album, which promises to offer a heartfelt exploration of her personal and musical evolution.
