Christian Pulisic expected to leave Chelsea this summer as he needs to ‘feel like an important player’ again.
Christian Pulisic, a member of Team USA, is said to be leaving Chelsea this summer because he “needs to feel like an important player” once more.
The 24-year-old forward’s fourth season at Stamford Bridge and the last year of his contract in West London are about to come to an end. Despite making 142 appearances for Chelsea and scoring 26 goals, he was only able to make eight Premier League starts in the 2022–23 season due to form and fitness difficulties.
In light of the intense rivalry for positions, questions about his future in England are already being raised. According to Fabrizio Romano, a deal that benefits all sides might be reached in the upcoming transfer window.
He has told CBS Sports: “I think [Pulisic will leave], yes. It’s time for him to go and play some regular football, he needs to be consistent and feel like an important player in the club and this is not happening at Chelsea.
My expectation is for Chelsea to prepare for Christian Pulisic to go this summer, but I think they want an important proposal. It’s going to be complicated, maybe a loan deal with a buy option clause. Or they could try and find a permanent deal opportunity for Christian Pulisic. But this is one of the priorities of Chelsea, to sell as many players as possible.”
This summer, Chelsea will be open to bids for a number of players as they look to recuperate some of the £600 million ($752 million) they spent on new players during the previous two transfer windows.
In addition to being a talismanic presence for his nation and a player that the USMNT will be looking to for inspiration as they count down the days until the 2026 World Cup, an event they will be co-hosting with neighbours Canada and Mexico, Pulisic is a saleable asset for the Blues.
