Luka Modric informs Real Madrid of his contract decision.
According to reports, Luka Modric has told Real Madrid he will stay at the club for at least one more season.
The midfielder, who played for Real Madrid and won a Ballon d’Or and five UEFA Champions Leagues, is one of the best players in the history of the game. Even at the advanced age of 37, Modric continues to give his all for Los Blancos.
Despite these outstanding performances, Modric’s advancing years have caused Real to start looking for long-term alternatives for the Croatian and longtime comrade Toni Kroos.
Huge sums of money were spent on Aurelien Tchouameni and Eduardo Camavinga in recent years, and they are now close to signing England superstar Jude Bellingham. Camavinga has astonishingly improved to become one of the greatest full-backs in Europe.
According to reports, last week that the current European champions are close to signing the 19-year-old from Borussia Dortmund after a positive meeting with the player’s father – beating out competition from the likes of Manchester City and Liverpool for his signature.
Modric’s future at the Santiago Bernabeu has been seriously questioned by the impending acquisition of Bellingham because of a projected shortage of playing time in the upcoming season.
Modric has reportedly reinforced his commitment to the club for at least another year despite this and interest from the Middle East and MLS teams. The midfielder is expected to join Kroos and Karim Benzema in signing a new one-year contract at the club.
Speaking to Cadena SER after last wee’s Copa del Rey final triumph over Osasuna, Modric confirmed his intentions to stay at the club: “My idea is to continue here at Real Madrid, for sure. This club is my whole life, Real Madrid is my whole life.”
