Bukayo Saka breaks silence after Arsenal penalty miss.
Forward Bukayo Saka has apologized to Arsenal fans for missing the penalty in Sunday’s 2-2 draw with West Ham United.
The Gunners again pushed back a 2-0 lead at the weekend – having done so at Anfield last Sunday with a 2-2 draw – after taking the lead in the first 10 minutes of the game through Martin Odegaard and Gabriel Jesus.
Goals from Said Benrahmaand Jarrod Bowen sent Arsenal back to the London Stadium, dealing a blow to the club’s title hopes.
As well as ruing the concession of two goals, Arsenal will be ruing Saka’s second-half penalty miss. The star forward has been in stunning form all season, scoring 12 and bagging 10 assists in the league, but curled a spot kick wide of the post after Michail Antonio handled the ball in his own penalty area on Sunday afternoon.
Saka has since taken to his personal Instagram account in order to apologise to Gunners’ fans for said miss, writing:
“Regardless of the outcome, I’ll always accept my responsibility. Apologies Gunners, I’ll do everything I can to make it right.”

Speaking after the game to Sky Sports, Saka’s manager Mikel Arteta was keen to back his star player following the missed penalty kick, saying: “A player who takes penalties misses penalties, I don’t know anyone who hasn’t.”
Arsenal are currently only 4 points ahead of the high-performance team Manchester City on the Premier League table. The Citizens also hold a game-in-hand over their title rivals and home advantage in an upcoming top-of-the-table clash between the two sides.
