Didier Deschamps addresses rumours Karim Benzema could return for the World Cup final.
France coach Didier Deschamps has responded to questions on rumours that Karim Benzema will be available for the World Cup final in a fairly cryptic manner.
A thigh injury suffered by Benzema the day before the tournament started to put an end to his plans to captain his nation in Qatar.
It was decided to send him back to Spain so he could receive care at his club, Real Madrid, as it was anticipated that he would be absent for three weeks.
He nevertheless continued to be considered a member of France’s World Cup team because a replacement was never called up.
As a result, it has now been suggested that he would go back to Qatar to take part in the tournament’s title bout against Argentina.

According to Mundo Deportivo, the 34-year-old is once again fully engaged in training at Real Madrid and is well enough for the team to be delighted for him to re-join France for their World Cup match.
If that is the case, Deschamps will have to make the choice. While it may seem unlikely given that France made it all the way to the final without Benzema, the manager wouldn’t actually rule it out when asked about the potential.
“I’d prefer to move on to the next question,” he said when asked after his team’s 2-0 win over Morocco in the semi-finals.
Even if he were to come back, it’s quite doubtful that Benzema would play a significant role in the grand finals given how well Olivier Giroud has played without him, scoring four goals in five tournament appearances.
