The Nigerian duo become the first African acts to do this at the BET Awards.
Nigerian Afrobeat, Afrofusion superstars Ayodeji Ibrahim Balogun, known professionally as Wizkid, and Temilade Openiyi, known professionally as Tems, have set a new record at the just concluded 2022 BET Awards.
The Nigerian duo are officially the first African acts to achieve this feat at the recently concluded BET Awards.
Following their win in the Best Collaboration category at the BET Awards 2022, which took place in the early hours of today, Monday, June 27, 2022, Big Wiz and Tems set a new record for African artists as they became the first acts to achieve this undefeated feat at the award ceremony.

Fans will never forget Big Wiz’s tweet in which he confirmed that he and Tems created magic before releasing ‘Essence‘ from his ‘Made In Lagos‘ album, which seems obvious given the amount of attention the hit track has received so far.
The Star Entertainment boss and The “TRY ME” hitmaker are the first and only acts to win a major category at the BET Awards, winning Best Collaboration for their hit song ‘Essence,’ which featured Justin Bieber on the remix.
Wizkid, who was unable to attend the ceremony, was well represented by Tems, who took centre stage to accept the award and deliver a heartfelt speech.
