Wizkid’s global blockbuster hit with Tems, Essence has been nominated for another award, this time for the 2021 HipHopDX Awards.
Nigerian superstar artist Wizkid and Tems‘ Essence has been nominated for the 2021 HipHopDX Awards for Best R&B Song of the Year.
This was shared via Instagram on Monday, the 13th of December 2021.
Essence, dubbed “the song of the summer” by many, is a song from Wizkid’s Made in Lagos album, which was released in 2020.
The afro-pop tune which features talented Nigerian songstress Tems is a soothing mid-tempo song that has taken over the music scene on a global scale.

Aside from this recent achievement, Essence has previously achieved numerous milestones, including breaking into the top 10 on the Billboard Hot 100 (making it the highest-ranking African song ever to do so).
It also accumulated over 60 million streams on Apple Music and became the first African song to enter the top 10 on Apple Music in the United States, among other achievements.
At the HipHopDX Awards, Wizkid’s Essence was nominated for Best R&B Song, among major singles including Silk Sonic’s Leave The Door Open, SZA’s Good Days, and Ari Lennox’s Pressure.
