Two years with no award, Olamide remains king of the street.

Olamide Still Rules The Streets, Even Without Awards.

There has been an ongoing debate on social media considering the street credibility of the veteran rapper, Olamide.

During the course of this article, we will be taking you on a factual ride on the whole issue, so fasten your tight belt as you read on.

Olamide Adedeji aka Badoo is a superbly talented rapper who redefined the rap game in the Nigerian Music Industry.

He is also one of the major pioneers in what we refer to as the “Yoruba new school rap*.

Baddo” hit the limelight after releasing his hit single “Eni Duro“, which charted several radio stations in Lagos.

After this major breakthrough, he did several collaborations with numerous artists, including Wizkid, 9ice, Reminisce, and others.

In, 2011, the rap star joined ID Cabasa’s label; Coded Tunes record.

The rapper, however, left for his own label; “YBNL” in 2012.

YBNL as of now is one of the biggest record labels in the country that has produced several talented top-class artists like; Adekunle gold, Lil kesh, Davolee, Chinko Ekun, and just recently, Fireboy DML.

    Olamide also has several awards to his name, which cannot be listed under one paragraph, see them for yourselves;

    • Best indigenous artiste category in 2013 Nigerian Entertainment Award.
    • Won Best Collaboration ( Ghost Mode ft Phyno) in 2013 Nigerian Entertainment Award.
    • Won Best Album of the year ( Baddest Guy Ever Liveth) in 2013 Nigerian Entertainment Award.
    • The Headies 2013: He won 3 awards that year: Best Album, Best Street Hip hop artist, and Best Rap Album.
    • Best Afro Hip hop video in the same year, at the 2013 Nigerian Music Video Award.
    • 2014 Channel O Music Video Awards for Most Gifted West African Video (Turn Up)
    • Headies 2015: Olamide won two awards: Best Street Hop, and Artiste of the year.
    • City people Award 2015: He won the Rap artist of the year.

He has also bagged several big endorsements with mega-brands like Guinness and Etisalat now turned 9 mobile.

Following these achievements , the street king didn’t relax and get fat, he kept putting out hit songs back to back, that even his critics danced to, and remained relevant up till date.

Nigerians! how can we forget so soon! Wo!, “Science Student“, “Woske“,  “Oil & gas“, and even the latest “Pawon“.

This songs listed above topped many charts the moment they were dropped and many people even put them on repeat because they just couldn’t have enough of him.

Let’s be honest with ourselves here, when we talk about indigenous rappers, who comes to our minds first??.

Olamide has and is still paving waves for upcoming rappers and artists alike, talk of Zlatan Ibile, talk of Naira Marley, and the rest of them, they all pay homage to him.

Some people come out and rant that he hasn’t won an award in two years without even checking the facts.

Before awards are given, nominations are made. Before nominations, interested artists have to submit their songs for nominations.

Olamide hasn’t submitted his songs for nominations throughout all recent awards. Do you know why, because he wants to give other young artists a chance

Badoo is the type that steps back purposely for upcoming artists to shine. If you think some of these new bees would been able to stand him if he had been nominated, perhaps it’s time for a rethink.

Just a few days ago, some set of individuals took to Twitter to compare teen star; Rema and Olamide. When you think of lack of respect and insult, this is it.

What if Olamide had signed Rema instead, haven’t y’all even thought of that??.

Olamide’s crown as King of the streets cannot be determined by the number of awards he wins, but by the priceless and unquantifiable Legacy, he has built, and leaves behind.

Fellow Music Lovers! It’s time to wake up to the truth!.

Awards or no awards, Olamide remains king of the Streets!!!
