Fireboy DML came as a surprise, kind of. YBNL boss, Olamide has just signed on two new guys (Picazo Rhap and Yomi Blaze) to the label at about the same time. So we weren’t expecting any more new announcements, at least not anytime soon. But we got two big ones. He signed Fireboy, and the Mafia will be releasing a mixtape (instead of Olamide’s yearly ritual album.)
Both news happened to be about Fireboy, because he got the best of the Mixtape. Since then, he’s been quite on top of his game. After singles like “Sing” with Oxlade, “Fire Down” with Picazo, “Le Le Yi” with Lil Kesh (yes, Yagi) and his big hit, “Jealous”, it’s hard not to pay attention to the guy. He was quickly recognized as the hottest new kid in the block.
Now, what we’re looking at is not just a hot new guy with a few singles that are hot, we’re actually looking at a potential “Next Rated” Award Winner. Freaky, right? Yeah, freaky and nasty thing to say. But it’s right.
He doesn’t only know his onions well, he’s also proven himself a true artist, that understands the game, and is ready to deliver to fans. So “What If I Say” he’s the next big thing?
Over the course of last week, Fireboy DML and his new single, “What If I Say” have been trending everywhere. It’s the first track we’ve got from him in a while and it’s just like fans got what they’ve been yearning for.
The Pheelz-produced jam has the lover boy singing passionately about his love interest. Taking on that same old Adekunle Gold style people said he used on “I’ll Be Fine”, he rides the rather low-tempo beat, putting in his best vibe. It sounds like the track was the first take, it sounds so original, and well arranged. Probably why it took a few moments.

An official video has been released, and it’s also Trending on YouTube. He just seems to be all the rave now. No one’s got nothing on him. With a YBNL badge, and his track record, the sky is the limit for the guy.
Okay, what about now, what if I say he’s the next big thing? You’d probably say, “I know.”
