While for many years to come, we’ll never forget how the years 2017 & 2018 shaped our music industry, for good, 2019 has been quite a rather silent year. Just a month before the end of Q2, it’s evident this is just a normal year, you’d say. With normal artists and normal songs, and normal albums, and normal Patoranking and normal RunTown.
We don’t have too many hits, although a handful of ‘A-Listers’ have dropped stuff worthy of note. But we’re not having anything like hits ‘pon hits, trust me. Maybe things will change in the summer. But now, we’re starving.
A DMW and FlyBoi are probably what we need to lighten up the scene. Something like “One Ticket,” but with Mayorkun instead of OBO? Probably.
“True” doesn’t need any hype. It’s from two of the hottest guys on the block, in this industry. Whether it’s given a huge promotional budget or not, it’s gonna get the rotations, the streams, the views. But then, will it become a ‘big hit’? A blockbuster (whatever that means)? And what will even make it become a hit?

The song has Mayorkun and Kizz Daniel singing melodiously to a lady on some kind of afro-house track with a vibe that is quite catchy. It won’t even take so much effort to sing long the second time they sing the hook. “No be true, all the things dem talk about me no be true…,” Mayorkun sings on the chorus, as Kizz backs him up, adding his own spice.
The way they share the spotlight on the track, shows it’s in fact a good collaboration, and not some ‘mail me the beat, let me record my verse and send the data’ stuff. They both sang on the hook and although Kizz got the best part of the verses, it’s not hard to figure Mayorkun is around, and he’s in charge. From the hook, to the verse, and the vamp, the vibe didn’t stop being electric. So if the question is “is this a good song”? The answer would most likely be YES!

Its got potentials, but with the pace at which stuff is moving this year, nobody really knows when the right time to drop something is, or even if there is a right time. Two albums went down last weekend, I bet this is probably anyone’s best shot at capturing people’s attention while they still want to get more.
“True” may just be the biggest highlight of the year, who knows? ‘Collabo Of The Year” maybe. Wait a minute, “I don’t mean to be rude!”
