‘I love being curvy, having a little booty’ – Tems

Grammy-winning Nigerian singer and global sensation Temilade Openiyi, popularly known as Tems, has spoken openly about embracing her body and what fuels her striking sense of fashion.
During an intimate conversation with Cocoa Butter in Atlanta, Georgia, the 29-year-old artist was asked to share what she values most about being a Black woman.
With a bright smile, Tems responded, “I love being curvy. I love that I have a little booty, you know what I’m saying?” She expressed pride in her signature figure, describing it as a “figure 8” body shape and calling it a beautiful part of being a naturally ‘endowed’ Black woman.
According to the Oscar-nominated singer, her curves are just one of many reasons she feels empowered and grateful for her identity.
When the discussion shifted to her fashion choices, Tems shared insights into her bold, detail-rich style. “I’m definitely into the details. I’m definitely into the bling,” she said, attributing her flair for opulence partly to her Nigerian roots.
“Nigerians are naturally extravagant in everything. I’m very into that, but I always add my own spin. I’m not afraid to be myself,” she added confidently.
“What’s your favourite thing about being a black woman??”

Earlier in May, during an interview at the 2025 Met Gala in New York, Tems encouraged people across the globe to explore Africa with their own eyes. “I always tell people to visit Lagos and Ghana before forming an opinion about Africa,” she said. “Just go and see for yourself. Feel the energy. Experience it.”
Born on June 11, 1995, in Lagos, Tems carries a name that reflects her royal essence — Temilade, which translates from Yoruba to “the crown is mine.” Although her early years included a move to the UK, she returned to Nigeria at the age of five following her parents’ separation, a journey that would ultimately shape the remarkable artist she is today.
