Today marks ten years since we lost the great indigenous rapper, Dagrin who is credited with being the reason why Yoruba rap culture is thriving.
Fans of the “Pon Pon” crooner took to social media to celebrate the rapper whose impact in the music industry won’t be forgotten.
Celebrities and friends also weren’t left out and they took to Twitter to share fond and in some cases, hilarious stories of Dagrin.
We at Mp3bullet.ng have decided to compile a list of stories of Dagrin as shared by fans and friends.
- Did you know that Dagrin was pranked two weeks before his death? (I kid you not). The rapper was set up by the Playhouse crew to be pranked in a supermarket where he was accused of buying Hennessey on credit in front of his newfound love. In true Dagrin fashion, the prank was interesting to watch.
- According to a story shared by a staff of Boomplay Nigeria, Nigerian rapper Loose Kanyon was persuaded by his cousin to do freestyle at Koko Lounge. After he picked the Mic and began to freestyle he was unexpectedly joined by Dagrin and they had a mad ass rap battle, in his words. It was said that the incident gave birth to Waxlyrical, a rap battle for upcoming rappers.
Loose Kaynon's cousin told him to kick a freestyle at Koko Lounge.
He grabbed a mic, began to freestyle. Dagrin was in the lounge at the time and asked for a second mic.
They had a mad ass rap battle and that was how WaxLyrical was born. #Dagrin10yrs

- Remember when Dagrin tried to convince us that the meaning of Kondo in his song, “Kondo” meant condition but we had formed our meaning of the word. Well, you can’t fault the man for trying.
This is why they say don't always try "shalaye", even Dagrin was not immune 😂😂😂

- Davido’s manager, Asa Asika shared how Dagrin once pulled to Rehab Club in a suit and when he laughed at the rapper’s dressing and teased him about making the money he always rapped about, Dagrin replied that he was preparing for the money.
Funny Da Grin memory him pulling up to Rehab (the club) in a suit. I laughed at him saying he had made the big money he always rapped about and his reply was he’s preparing for the money, that’s he just washing everyone for now. “Asika if I collect that bar you go know”
