Portable Granted ₦2 Million Bail, Trial Adjourned to March

Nigerian street-pop singer Habeeb Okikiola, popularly known as Portable, has been granted bail by the Isabo Magistrate Court in Abeokuta, Ogun State, following his arraignment on Thursday morning.

The ‘Zaazoo Zeh‘ crooner faced a five-count charge, including conspiracy, assault, obstruction of government officials, possession of weapons, and conduct likely to incite public disturbance. Portable pleaded not guilty to all charges.

Nine of his associates were also arraigned before Magistrate O. L. Oke on similar charges. The co-defendants—Nurudeen Warris (21), Adetola Alashe (25), Samuel Adeleke (28), Oluwaseun Ayenuwa (19), Oluwapelumi Adeosun (20), Gospel Kanu (20), Precious Ohiegebo (19), Ifeoluwa Babatunde (27), and Fatimo Muhammed (26)—were accused of engaging in acts of felony, assault, and obstructing town planning officers while allegedly wielding cutlasses and guns.

The charges arose from an altercation involving three officials—Abidemi Onabanjo, Ramon Lateef, and Akinpelumi Oyero—who were reportedly attacked while carrying out their official duties at Odogwu Bar, a property owned by Portable.

During the court session, Portable’s defense lawyer, Oluwatoyin Ayodele, pleaded for bail, arguing that the singer had demonstrated remorse and had learned from the situation.

After hearing the arguments, Magistrate O. L. Oke granted Portable bail in the sum of ₦2 million with one surety in like sum. The court subsequently adjourned the trial to March 5, 2025.
