DJ Cuppy reveals why she no longer wants the colour pink to define her image after 17 years
DJ Cuppy is embracing a new chapter in her personal style, moving beyond the colour pink that has been closely associated with her public image for nearly two decades.
The Nigerian DJ and music producer, whose real name is Florence Otedola, opened up about the decision during a recent interview with GQ Poland, where she featured in the magazine’s November 2026 edition. A video from the conversation surfaced on X on Friday.
For years, pink was more than just a fashion choice for Cuppy. It became a major part of her identity, reflecting her confidence, vibrant personality and willingness to stand out. However, she believes her growth as a person and entertainer should not be restricted to a particular colour.
Looking back at the early days of her career, Cuppy explained that embracing pink was also a way of expressing her femininity in an entertainment industry largely dominated by men. At the time, the colour helped her establish a distinctive identity while making her presence felt in a competitive space.
Having spent years building her career and breaking through different barriers, the DJ now feels more comfortable expressing her feminine side through different colours and styles rather than relying on one signature look.
Speaking about her current fashion identity, Cuppy described her style as vibrant, grounded and influenced by African culture. She also noted that being a woman in a male-dominated industry continues to shape how she approaches fashion and self-expression.

Her decision, however, does not mean pink is completely out of her wardrobe. Rather, she wants the freedom to explore other sides of her personality without being permanently associated with one particular shade.
Cuppy has long been recognised for her pink hairstyles, outfits and accessories, making the colour an unmistakable part of her brand. Beyond music and entertainment, she is also known for her philanthropic activities and is the daughter of Nigerian billionaire businessman Femi Otedola.
Her latest GQ Poland feature explores several aspects of her journey, including her music career, educational background, charitable work and connection to African heritage.
