Brazil national football team forward João Pedro has reacted emotionally after being left out of Brazil’s final squad for the 2026 FIFA World Cup set to begin in June in the United States.

The talented attacker had initially been included in Carlo Ancelotti’s provisional 55-man list, raising hopes that he would secure a place in the final squad. However, when the Brazilian manager unveiled his official 26-man selection, João Pedro’s name was missing, a decision that has already sparked widespread debate among fans and football analysts.
Many supporters had tipped the forward to make the tournament squad following an impressive campaign at club level. His omission became an even bigger talking point after experienced names like Neymar were included despite ongoing concerns surrounding fitness and injuries.
Reports suggest João Pedro watched the squad announcement surrounded by close family and friends, only for the moment to end in disappointment after realizing he would not be travelling with the team for football’s biggest tournament.
Reacting to the setback, the Brazilian shared an emotional message:
“I tried to give my best at all times. Unfortunately, it wasn’t possible to fulfill this dream of representing my country in a World Cup, but I remain calm and focused, as I always try to be. Joys and frustrations are part of football. From now on, I wish good luck to everyone who is there and I will be just another fan cheering for them to bring the sixth title home”.
Brazil head coach Carlo Ancelotti also addressed the difficult decision to leave certain players out of the squad, acknowledging João Pedro directly while insisting his opportunity would still come in the future.
“I am sad for players who have been left out, like João Pedro. They will have chances in the future.”
Despite the disappointment, many believe the young forward still has a bright future ahead with the national team, especially considering his recent development and growing reputation at the club level.
