“I Dey Old Oh” — Burna Boy Reconsiders Fatherhood at 34 After Saying He Wasn’t Ready

Grammy-winning Nigerian superstar Burna Boy appears to be rethinking his stance on fatherhood as he celebrates his 34th birthday.
Just a year after stating publicly that he wasn’t ready to have children, the Last Last hitmaker now says the idea of becoming a father is starting to make sense.
During a toast at his birthday celebration on July 2, 2025, the Afrofusion star revealed that a conversation with billionaire friend Jowizaza got him reflecting deeply about life and legacy.
“Na so Jowizaza follow me talk the last time, I come dey think about my life. I don dey old oh, I for begin born pikin,” Burna Boy said with a smile.

This marks a significant shift from his earlier position in May 2024, when he addressed the topic during an Instagram Live with fans. At the time, Burna Boy made it clear that not having children was an intentional choice, tied to his desire to be a fully present and capable father.
“Why haven’t I had kids yet? Bro, because I don’t want to have kids yet,” he said.
“Have you seen my operation, bro? Have you seen my mum, the way she loves me? Have you seen my dad, the way he loves me? I know I can’t give that to anyone right now with the life I live.”
He went on to say he wanted to wait until he was settled enough to dedicate his full time and attention to raising a child the right way.
“When I’m settled and I can be there for my children every day, every single minute, every second, that’s when I’ll have kids. My kids deserve better than I got — and I had both my mum and dad,” he explained.
During that same Live, Burna Boy also addressed internet banter around his fertility, laughing off any insinuations.
“I see the bants in the chat talking about some impotent shit. Let’s even say that it’s true that I can’t have any kids — have you not heard of IVF?” he quipped.

Now at 34, the African Giant seems to be easing into the idea of parenthood — a shift that fans and close friends alike are watching with curiosity. Whether this means baby steps or baby bottles next is yet to be seen, but one thing’s clear: Burna’s perspective is evolving with age.
