Burna Boy, the Nigerian music sensation, has made headlines with a series of statements following criticism for his silence during nationwide protests. In a notable gesture, he announced that he had relinquished his African Giant title to fellow artist Falz.

In a tweet that has sparked considerable discussion, Burna Boy expressed his views on political contributions. He said, “No politician has ever given anything. Go ask Wike where the land him give me or which money him give me. You think I’m your faves.”

This comment appears to be a veiled critique of Davido, who has recently demonstrated solidarity with Governor Nyesom Wike and has been more vocal in his support for the protests.

Burna Boy’s remarks highlight a growing divide among Nigerian artists regarding their roles and responsibilities in social and political issues.

As public figures, their engagement (or lack thereof) with pressing national matters often draws scrutiny from fans and followers.

The artist’s decision to pass the African Giant title to Falz may also signify a shift in his public persona. Burna Boy’s move has sparked conversation about the responsibilities of artists in speaking out against social injustice.

As the protests continue, Nigerians are calling on their leaders to take action. Burna Boy’s statements have added fuel to the fire, sparking a national conversation about the role of artists in politics.

Will other artists follow suit and use their platforms to speak out? Only time will tell.
