Asake accused of homophobia and colourism by former team member

Grammy-nominated Afrobeats star Asake has been accused of homophobia and colourism by his former brand strategist, Tunde Pheonix, in a series of social media posts.
Pheonix took to Instagram to share his claims, titling his account ‘Surviving Military,’ a reference to Asake’s latest single ‘Military.’ In his posts, he alleged that Asake disrespected Brazilian singer Ludmilla due to her sexuality.
“Homophobia doesn’t have a place in our society. Starting with Military vs Ludmilla, he disgraced Africa. Story up next. If I lie, Ludmilla will come and say I’m lying. She will give a statement,” he wrote.
He further detailed an alleged incident during the shoot for their collaboration, where he claimed Asake refused to embrace Ludmilla.
“Ludmilla arrives on set all happy and tried to hug Military (referring to Asake), but he steps back and gives her a long handshake in front of everyone. She nearly cried, it was embarrassing in front of all her people,” Pheonix alleged.
Pheonix also accused Asake of avoiding interaction with locals in Brazil and refusing to engage with dark-skinned women during the shoot. He claimed that Asakeโs team tried to justify his actions by saying, “He doesn’t want to associate with that,” referring to Ludmillaโs sexuality and her family situation.
The allegations have sparked mixed reactions across social media, with fans and critics weighing in on the controversy. While some have called for a response from Asake, others remain skeptical, awaiting further clarifications from the involved parties.
Asake is a homophobic colorist on top of this misogynistic nature? Color me shocked. ๐ pic.twitter.com/CAfmc8LfbS
