Fresh off his nomination for Best African Music Performance at the 67th Grammy Awards, Nigerian street-pop sensation Asake has surprised fans with a new single titled ‘Military.’

The release comes shortly after Asake’s viral Grammy appearance, where he turned heads by rocking a full military camouflage two-piece.
Speaking with the press on the red carpet, the ‘Lonely At The Top‘ crooner confidently stated that he wears what he wants and does what he pleases—an attitude that resonates in his latest track.
On ‘Military,’ Asake addresses critics who often question his choice to predominantly sing in Yoruba and his comfort level with English.
In the song, he sing-raps in Yoruba, telling detractors to keep talking while boldly declaring that he doesn’t feel great when speaking English.
The track also sees Asake boasting about his financial success, claiming he has more money than most of his peers.
He samples Tupac Shakur’s ‘Do For Love,’ paying tribute to the late hip-hop legend while flexing his dominance in the music scene.
Additionally, Asake gives a shoutout to his former YBNL boss Olamide, acknowledging his influence while hinting at the possibility of dropping a surprise album—reinforcing his stance on doing things on his terms.
Unlike his usual major rollouts, ‘Military‘ is currently available only on Audiomack, making it his first release of 2025 in a rather unconventional fashion.
Earlier this year, Asake teased two new songs, signalling his intent to continue his impressive run after a record-breaking 2024, where his third studio album ‘Lungu Boy‘ dominated streaming platforms and set multiple records.
