People who are not music-oriented leading Nigerian music industry – Adekunle Gold

Nigerian Afrobeats sensation AG Baby has voiced his concerns over the current leadership in the Nigerian music industry, claiming that the wrong individuals are in positions of influence.
The ‘Sade’ singer took to social media on Saturday to express his dissatisfaction with the industry’s leadership, stating that many people in charge are not music-oriented.
In his post, Adekunle Gold argued that the wrong leaders are perpetuating false narratives about the music business, causing true talent to be overlooked while mediocrity is celebrated.
He lamented that creatives such as artists and producers are overshadowed by individuals who lack a deep understanding of the craft.
“People who have no business leading music conversations are now controlling and destroying the industry,” AG Baby wrote. “Artists, producers, and real contributors are being overshadowed by people who don’t create, don’t understand, and don’t respect the craft. When the wrong people lead the conversation, they push the wrong narratives. That’s why real talent is overlooked and mediocrity thrives. Congratulations to everyone involved.”

Despite his frustrations with the industry, Adekunle Gold is actively involved in preserving and celebrating Nigerian music culture.
He is collaborating with White House Productions to produce a documentary titled The Odyssey, which will explore the rich history of Yoruba music.
The documentary will trace the evolution of various subgenres within Yoruba music, such as Were, Sakara, Apala, Juju, AfroJuju, and Fuji.
Bobo Omotayo will serve as the executive producer, and the project has already garnered significant attention from within the music industry.
The Odyssey, which is currently in production, promises to offer a deep dive into the Yoruba people’s musical legacy and their contributions to the broader cultural landscape.
