“I’m in pain. The revenue Apple Music pays me every month is very low.” – Portable Appeals to Don Jazzy Over Low Streaming Revenue
Controversial Nigerian singer Habeeb Okikiola Badmus, popularly known as Portable, has taken to social media to express frustration over the low earnings from his music streams, despite releasing multiple songs.
In a recent video, the singer lamented that the revenue generated from platforms like Apple Music is far below his expectations. He urged top Nigerian music executives to guide him on maximizing earnings from digital streams.
Portable revealed that the situation has been a source of personal pain, adding that with proper mentorship, he believes he could surpass many of his peers in the industry.
“I am in pain, I have been putting my song on Apple Music every month but the money I am generating is too low. They said it is because Nigerian streams are cheap but I also have fans in America and all over the world. Where is the revenue from those foreign streams? Don Jazzy, please, help me and teach me how to generate more money from music streams. I have Apple Music account but the revenue that I receive is very low. They divide my earnings into 17. Please, come and teach me how to fetch music money. If Don Jazzy teach me how to generate more money from streaming platforms, I would be bigger than all artistes in Nigeria,” he stated.
The plea highlights the ongoing challenges some Nigerian artists face in monetizing music streams globally, even as Afrobeats continues to gain massive international traction.
