Nigerian Afropop star Ayra Starr has spoken positively about Nigerian men, even after facing criticism and backlash from some of them online in recent times.

The singer, whose real name is Oyinkansola Sarah Aderibigbe, shared her thoughts during a recent appearance on Way Up with Angela Yee, where she compared Nigerian men to men from New York while discussing relationships and cultural attitudes.
According to the 23-year-old artist, Nigerian men can be very supportive partners, particularly when it comes to caring for the women in their lives. She noted that their confidence and approach to relationships remind her of men in New York.
“Nigerian men love to take care of their women. They are very supportive of their wife or girlfriend. They are very very confident, so it is almost the same thing as New York men. But you know, men are men. A man is a man still. It is universal thing,” she stated.
Ayra Starr’s comments come at a time when the singer has been facing waves of online criticism, particularly over her fashion choices and public persona. Despite the backlash, she appears to be maintaining a balanced perspective, acknowledging both her reservations and the positive traits she believes Nigerian men possess.
The fast-rising Afrobeats star has continued to gain international recognition while remaining one of the most talked-about young voices in Nigeria’s music scene.
