After years of speculation and countless assumptions, Nigerian rap legend Olamide has finally cleared the air about one of the biggest misconceptions surrounding his personality.
For the longest time, many fans believed the YBNL boss was simply shy, a theory built around his soft-spoken nature and tendency to stay out of the spotlight unless necessary.

But during a recent sit-down on the Ada’s Room podcast, Olamide set the record straight. He explained that the public often misreads his calmness, mistaking it for stage fright or social discomfort. In reality, nothing could be further from the truth.
“One thing I wish people would understand about me is that I’m not a shy person. I’m just naturally laid back,” he said, adding that staying quiet helps him protect his peace and stay focused on the things that matter.
Pressed to explain the difference, the rapper known fondly as Baddo broke it down in simple terms. He shared that shyness usually stems from insecurity or unease around people, the kind that makes eye contact or simple conversations feel like a chore. “Shyness is when you don’t have the confidence or the charisma to face people, look them in the eye, or hold a conversation,” he explained.
His own temperament, he said, has nothing to do with fear or hesitation. Instead, it’s a deliberate choice, a way of avoiding noise and needless attention. “But being laid back means something different; it just means you don’t want unnecessary disturbance. People assume I’m shy, but I’m really not.”
For fans, the conversation offered a rare peek behind the curtain. Despite being one of the most dominant forces in Nigerian music, Olamide has always maintained a surprisingly low profile, fuelling assumptions about his personality. With this new clarification, he’s made it clear that his quiet nature is intentional, a lifestyle choice, not a lack of confidence.
