Nigerian Afropop star Yemi Alade has showered praise on fellow singer and self-acclaimed Queen of Afrobeat, Tiwa Savage, applauding her influence and the doors she has helped open for women across the continent.
The 36-year-old ‘Johnny’ hitmaker shared her thoughts during a music panel at Entertainment Week Africa on Wednesday, November 19, 2025, held at Eko Hotel in Lagos.
According to reports, the panel brought together some of Nigeria’s most impactful female artists, Tiwa Savage, Yemi Alade, Sasha P, Qing Madi, Teni, and Waje, who sat down to unpack their journeys, challenges, and triumphs as women thriving in an industry that often tests their strength.
The session, themed “The Price of Being Her… Power and the Cost of Visibility in Music,” was moderated by Tiwa Savage, who guided heartfelt conversations around authenticity, self-worth, and the constant balancing act of being seen and staying true.
Yemi Alade used the moment to reflect on her career, speaking from a place of experience and resilience.
“It’s very important to be authentic. It dawned on me that it was important for me to create my own doors. Where the doors were closed in my face, I broke down the walls. Where the walls were too strong, I created a window for myself. But just keep going and going and going.”
She encouraged women in the industry to embrace the strength they already possess, adding: “You all need to know that we can stand in our power.”
Then, turning to Tiwa Savage with admiration, Alade acknowledged the trail Savage continues to blaze for female artists across Africa.
“I honestly want you to know that those moments when you rugged it and do what you truly want to do, you are standing up for many females.”
Her words drew nods and applause, a fitting tribute to a night dedicated to celebrating the courage, creativity, and unstoppable determination of women in music.
