Afrobeats megastar Davido once again showed why he remains one of Africa’s most adored performers as he shut down the Michael Okpara Square in Enugu on November 1, thrilling over 20,000 fans in a night that blended culture, surprise, and pure star power.

The Enugu concert marked the third stop of the Nigerian leg of his 5ive Alive World Tour, following sold-out shows in Uyo and Yola. Fans from across the Southeast and neighboring states poured into the Coal City hours before showtime, transforming the venue into a sea of anticipation.
Before Davido even hit the stage, the atmosphere was already electric. Jeriq and Zoro, two of Enugu’s finest rappers, delivered high-energy sets that had the audience chanting their names and waving banners.

When Jeriq performed his viral 2020 hit “Remember,” the crowd sang every word, setting the perfect tone for OBO’s grand entrance.
And when Davido finally appeared just after midnight, the entire square erupted. The superstar emerged wearing traditional Igbo regalia, complete with the revered “Okpu mmee” red cap, a gesture that carried deep cultural symbolism.
The red cap, known across Igbo land as a symbol of leadership and integrity, is traditionally reserved for titled men and chiefs. Seeing a Yoruba-born global star wear it proudly resonated deeply with the Enugu crowd.

For many, it was a full-circle moment, given that Davido’s late paternal grandmother, Dr. Nnenna Esther Adeleke, hailed from Abia State. The singer himself has often reaffirmed this bond, famously declaring, “I AM IGBO by blood.”
Once the music kicked in, it was all fireworks. Davido rolled through his catalogue of back-to-back hits — “If,” “Fall,” “FIA,” “Risky,” “Unavailable,” and more, keeping the audience on their feet. Social media clips later showed thousands of fans singing along word for word, their voices blending with his in perfect harmony.
The night’s biggest surprise came when Omah Lay appeared from backstage. The crowd’s roar was deafening as the pair performed “With You,” their smash collaboration off Davido’s 5IVE album. The chemistry between the two stars was undeniable, their synergy transforming the moment into one of the most talked-about highlights of the tour so far.

Adding to the evening’s cultural warmth, rapper Zoro later surprised Davido backstage with a platter of Igbo delicacies — Abacha and Nkwobi. A short clip of Davido tasting the food with a wide grin quickly went viral on X (formerly Twitter) and Instagram, with fans hailing the scene as a “beautiful display of unity through culture.”

The Enugu show is yet another triumph for Davido’s 5ive Alive Nigerian Tour. The journey began in Uyo, Akwa Ibom, on October 26, where over 30,000 fans filled the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium, followed by a massive outing in Yola, Adamawa, on October 29. Davido later explained that he chose Yola for its peaceful atmosphere and readiness to host large-scale events.

Up next, the superstar will take the party to Ibadan, Oyo State, on November 9, where he’s set to perform at the historic Obafemi Awolowo Stadium (formerly Liberty Stadium), which seats up to 25,000 fans.
The full tour schedule reveals a thrilling lineup: Uyo (Oct 26), Yola (Oct 29), Enugu (Nov 1), Ibadan (Nov 9), Abuja (Dec 14 at Eagle Square), and the grand finale in Lagos on Christmas Day, December 25.
Each stop so far has not only reaffirmed Davido’s superstar status but also showcased his deep connection with Nigerian culture and his fans — proving that no matter where he performs, the OBO magic remains timeless.
