Global Afrobeats sensation David Adeleke, better known as Davido, has added a new title to his name: Chairman of the Osun State Sports Trust Fund.
The announcement, made by the Osun State Government on Wednesday, October 22, 2025, marks a major step in the state’s renewed drive to reposition its sports sector and empower young people through sports development.
According to the government’s statement, Davido’s appointment is expected to bridge the gap between the public and private sectors by attracting fresh investment into sports infrastructure and youth programmes.
The initiative aligns with Governor Ademola Adeleke’s broader vision to modernize Osun’s sporting landscape and use athletics as a tool for social and economic growth.
Confirming the development, Deputy Governor Kola Adewusi, who also serves as the Commissioner for Sports, revealed that Davido gladly accepted the role and has already shown deep enthusiasm for the project.
“Davido’s appointment is a strategic step. His influence and passion will help attract funds that will significantly boost sports growth in Osun,” Adewusi stated.
He further noted that the government is in the final stages of establishing the Osun State Sports Commission, which will serve as the central body for sports administration, policy implementation, and talent development.
Adeyusi also gave updates on the ongoing renovation of the Osogbo Township Stadium, assuring that the facility, once completed, would meet Olympic standards and serve as a hub for regional competitions.
For Davido, who hails from a family deeply rooted in Osun State, the appointment represents a meaningful homecoming and an opportunity to give back to his roots beyond music.
