Arsenal strike total Viktor Gyokeres agreement with Sporting CP worth £64m as turbulent transfer saga finally draws to a close

Viktor Gyökeres To Join Arsenal After Reaching Agreement with Sporting CP
Arsenal are reportedly on the verge of finalising a blockbuster deal for Sporting CP’s prolific striker Viktor Gyökeres, in a transfer believed to be worth around £64 million (€73.8m/$86.3m), including performance-related add-ons.
According to The Athletic, the agreement includes an upfront payment of £54.8 million (€ 63.1 million/$74.2 million), with an additional £8.6 million (€ 9.9 million/$11.7 million) contingent upon certain conditions. While negotiations initially hit a snag over the structure and triggers of the add-ons, renowned journalist Fabrizio Romano later confirmed that a verbal agreement is now in place between both clubs.
Arsenal have long been in the market for a new frontman, and it appears that pursuit may be nearing its end. Gyökeres emerged as a top target for Mikel Arteta, but securing the Swedish forward has not been without drama. Reports from Portugal suggested that the 27-year-old refused to report for pre-season training, allegedly even threatening a strike, which prompted Sporting president Frederico Varandas to consider disciplinary action.
Despite those tensions, Gyökeres is now poised to complete his move to North London and sign a contract running through 2030. His agent is understood to have waived commission fees to ensure the transfer crossed the line.
The former Coventry City and Brighton striker took the Portuguese league by storm last season, netting an astonishing 54 goals in 52 appearances across all competitions. His remarkable form attracted interest from several Premier League clubs, including Manchester United, but the Swedish international was reportedly intent on joining Arsenal from the outset.
Should the final formalities go smoothly, Gyökeres could link up with the Gunners’ squad in the coming days, providing a much-needed boost ahead of their new campaign.
