Manchester United battled through adversity to edge past Ipswich Town 3-2 at Old Trafford on Wednesday night, securing their first Premier League win in over a month despite playing with 10 men for more than half the game.

United’s night started on the back foot, conceding just four minutes in. However, a swift response saw Sam Morsy inadvertently turn the ball into his net before Matthijs de Ligt marked his Old Trafford debut intending to put the hosts ahead.

Their momentum took a hit just before halftime when Patrick Dorgu was sent off following a VAR review for a dangerous challenge on Omari Hutchinson. Ipswich immediately capitalized on the numerical advantage, with Jaden Philogene’s cross sneaking past everyone to level the score at 2-2 heading into the break.

United wasted no time in the second half, regaining the lead within two minutes when Harry Maguire powered home a header from a Bruno Fernandes corner. That goal ultimately proved decisive as Ruben Amorim’s side held on for a crucial victory.

The win lifts United to 14th in the table, a point above Everton. While Bruno Fernandes remains central to the team’s creative spark, the influence of assistant coach Carlos Fernandes was evident in United’s set-piece efficiency—three of their goals came from dead-ball situations.

In the end, despite the numerical disadvantage, Maguire’s early second-half header sealed a much-needed three points, bringing some relief to Old Trafford.
