Ubi Franklin Responds to Scam Allegations by Singer Spyro

Music executive Ubi Franklin has directly addressed allegations of scamming levied against him by Nigerian singer Oludipe David, popularly known as Spyro.

The accusations arose after Spyro, known for his hit song ‘Who’s Your Guy’, shared his experience during an appearance on ‘The Link Up’ podcast.

Spyro alleged that Ubi Franklin, a known associate of superstar Davido, used Davido’s name to convince him to perform at an event. According to Spyro, Ubi promised that the 30BG boss would handle the payment, which was said to be $5,000.

Spyro explained that he initially raised concerns about the payment arrangement, but Ubi allegedly handed him a microphone as the event’s MC introduced him to perform. Feeling cornered, Spyro took to the stage.

After his performance, Spyro confronted Ubi about the promised fee, only for Ubi to allegedly admit that Davido was unaware of the arrangement and urged him not to bring it up.

Expressing his frustration, Spyro said, “I have an issue with Ubi Franklin. He claimed Davido invited us to perform at a party with a payment offer of $5,000. I told him I don’t charge that; the least I charge in naira is N20 million. On arrival, Ubi rushed me to the stage before I could say anything, and after performing, he revealed Davido wasn’t involved at all. It was a broad daylight scam!”

In response, Ubi Franklin took to his social media to deny the allegations, calling Spyro’s claims baseless and illogical. Ubi expressed frustration at the mention of Davido’s name in the matter, emphasizing his integrity and professional reputation.

Ubi’s social media post read: “I will not allow anyone to destroy my name. Please, it’s time you all stop trying to use Davido’s name to make your story sweet or get people to pay attention to it.

Why would I tell a friend of Davido, who is a growing artiste, that David said anything when I know you have direct links to him? How does this even make sense? I have never used David’s name to take anything from anyone. You want to use me to start your PR for the year? It’s not me because a lot is at stake, and I won’t let you do that.”

Ubi also added a financial twist to the ongoing spat, accusing Spyro of owing him money. He stated:
“Pay me my 10% from the car I helped you buy. You told me to wait till you finished paying, and I know you have finished paying since December.

Kindly credit me the balance because I have $5,000 meant for you, and you have ₦10.5 million meant for me. If we do the math, you owe me ₦2.5 million because $5,000 is ₦8 million. Thank you.”

The back-and-forth between the two has sparked widespread discussions among fans and industry stakeholders, with many questioning the professional ethics at play and seeking clarity on the unresolved financial matters.

I will not allow anyone destroy my name.
And please it’s time you all stop trying to use David’s name to make your story sweet or get people to pay attention to your story.
